    Our contribution to sustainability

The sustainable transformation of our society is a central challenge of our time.

We at MOCOM take responsibility and have defined sustainability as a strategic cornerstone for our corporate actions. We have already taken many important steps on our way to becoming a climate-neutral company. In doing so, we are guided by the United Nations' Agenda 2030 and the European Commission's Green Deal - from reducing CO2 emissions and promoting recycling and circular economy to a comprehensive code of conduct and social benefits for our employees. As part of the Otto Krahn Group, we create lasting value based on the pursuit of partnership, sustainability and innovation.

    Our ECO product portfolio

With our ECO product portfolio, we offer our customers solutions with up to 100 per cent recycled material. We measure the carbon footprint of our products using Sphera's Life Cycle Assessment software (GaBi). This enables us to provide our customers and partners with reliable information about the life cycle and sustainability of our compounds.
Innovations are part of a sustainable future, which is why we are continuously expanding our portfolio. New product developments with bio-based polymers are part of our research, along with many other approaches in the field of sustainable product solutions.

    CO2 savings through recycling

Every year MOCOM produces about 17,000 tons of recycled compounds, which are made from both industrial and household waste. The annual quantity produced is divided between the product groups Altech® ECO with PA, PP, PC and PC+ABS compounds and Alfater XL® ECO as freshly cross-linked TPV with recycled raw materials. This results in an annual CO2 saving of almost 50,000 tons. This is roughly equivalent to the CO2 emissions of a vehicle that circles the earth 125 times.

    Sustainable management

Since 2022, we have been using only electricity from renewable sources such as hydro power at our German sites. In this way, we are further improving the carbon footprint of our products and our production sites and making an important contribution to climate protection. Within the framework of our energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001, which has been established since 2014, we will continue to pursue ambitious energy-saving goals.
    Sustainibility

    Independent certification

All production sites worldwide are certified to ISO 14001 : 2015 for sustainable environmental management and ISO 45001 : 2018 for occupational health and safety. Both the management system and key processes that help reduce occupational accidents, promote employee health and avoid negative environmental impacts were audited. MOCOM also received gold in the EcoVadis rating, ranking among the top five percent of companies assessed by EcoVadis. The assessment evaluated corporate actions according to ecological, ethical and social criteria with globally applicable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) standards. In the area of the environment in particular, we reached a score of 80 percent, a level that is well advanced compared with the rest of the industry.

To this end, we have defined ambitious KPIs and environmental targets, including on energy and water consumption, waste reduction and the promotion of local biodiversity. For example, we are reducing the packaging materials we use to ship our compounds to customers around the world and gradually replacing them with recycled materials.
With working groups on environmental protection and sustainability, extensive internal training can be provided. This increases our employees' awareness and sensitivity to these issues. It is our conviction that sustainability and environmental protection are the decisive building blocks for a future worth living in all areas of our activities.

"Sustainable strategies decide our future. We use our creative scope to ensure a livable environment for future generations."
