MOCOM joins „Positive Plastics“ initiative with Altech ECO® and Cellidor®

Hamburg, 12/01/21. MOCOM is part of "Positive Plastics," an initiative launched during this year’s Fakuma to make particularly sustainable plastics accessible to a broader audience. The project includes a sample kit that presents the advantages of plastic types with a reduced ecological footprint in an easy-to-understand way and includes different material samples. The initiative is targeting engineers, designers as well as product managers and includes a total of 16 PCR, PIR, bio-based, bio-composite and mass-balanced plastics from various manufacturers. With Altech ECO® PA66 in high-quality Near-To-Prime® recycled grade and Cellidor® CP 410-10, two materials from MOCOM's portfolio are represented in the sample.

"A central focus of our service portfolio is the development and production of resource-saving plastic compounds," says Dr. Stefan Zepnik, Director Technical Service Center at MOCOM, who oversees the collaboration with the Positive Plastics team. "We consider Positive Plastics to be a promising approach, particularly as a way to introduce sustainable plastics to an audience that has not yet considered them as a material solution. It was clear to us that MOCOM could not be missing from this kit."

Behind the Positive Plastics initiative is an interdisciplinary team of three experts in product development and design. “For us, MOCOM’s materials solutions is a natural choice to present,” says Efrat Friedland of Positive Plastics. “With an outstanding portfolio of eco-balanced materials, established experience and knowledge and a team that can cater to tailor-made needs, we see it as a great fit for us and our objectives.” Shortly after the launch of the website, Friedland's team recorded the first orders, including well-known brand manufacturers. "We are very pleased with the positive feedback. This gives us tailwind for our objective of spreading the knowledge of available polymers with a reduced environmental impact", adds Friedland.

In addition to Altech ECO® and Cellidor®, MOCOM produces Altech IQ® and Alfater XL® ECO, other recycled and bio-based compounds. "We offer a broad product portfolio of sustainable materials that already make a significant contribution to resource conservation and CO2 reduction along the entire value chain in many applications across industries," adds Zepnik.

MOCOM's focus on sustainability has recently been awarded a gold medal by the EcoVadis rating agency. The rating system of the assessment specialist includes comprehensive criteria from the areas of environment, social affairs (labor and human rights), ethics as well as sustainable procurement. It is based on international CSR standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and ISO 26000.
