The WIPAG recycling service facilitates cost-effective disposal of industrial waste

Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, March 10, 2021. Production, use, disposal – in a growing number of industries, this value chain is under scrutiny. Many companies are looking for new solutions to conserve valuable resources, avoid waste and reduce the carbon footprint of their products. WIPAG, a specialist in recycling technology and part of the Otto Krahn Group, which also includes the plastics distributor ALBIS, has now further developed and optimized its “Recycling as a Service” (RaaS®️) concept, with which it supports companies in returning industrial waste to the cycle. Together with well-known brand manufacturers, cycles have already been successfully created in which post-industrial waste from various applications, such as bumpers or instrument panels, has been reprocessed and transferred back to production.

“Strengthening recycling management is the order of the day. We have made use of the last few months and further expanded our RaaS®️ service with investments in processes and analysis tools,” says Thomas Marquardt, Managing Director of WIPAG. “Our project partners benefit from a reduction in waste disposal costs and, on request, from optimally adjusted and high-quality recycling products that significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their applications.”

The "Recycling as a Service" (RaaS®️) offer includes several options for WIPAG customers.

In the closed loop process, the customer remains the owner of their production waste; WIPAG only invoices the agreed recycling services. Once the waste has been taken over, WIPAG separates the used plastics and processes them into high-quality compounds that can be reused in equivalent applications according to the cradle-to-cradle principle.

The open-loop procedure, on the other hand, gives WIPAG customers an economical way of reducing production waste, with WIPAG taking care of everything from logistical services to recycling.

WIPAG processing methods separate used plastics from everything else: Complex material compounds are also separated and then recycled. Various shredding techniques and selective separation methods such as density separation, optoelectronic or electrostatic separation and de-metallization make it high-quality processing of thermoplastic waste possible. An important point from a sustainability point of view: Energy consumption is significantly lower in mechanical recycling than in chemical recycling.

Continuous development and innovation mean that the WIPAG portfolio includes a wide range of products that combine quality and sustainability in order to meet the highest requirements.

The WIC Carbon fibre compound is a high-tech plastic made from recycled carbon fibers and impresses with its low weight (i.e. low density) combined with high fixity and rigidity. The material is also dimensionally stable and offers excellent electrical conductivity as well as good friction and wear properties.

Altech ®️ ECO recycling compounds are based on high-quality post-industrial and post-consumer materials. The Altech ®️ ECO compounds feature Near-to-prime ®️ quality: Their technical properties correspond to approximately 80% of that of new goods. In addition, more comprehensive customer-specific specifications of the properties are possible than with the IQ variant.

Altech ®️ IQ (IQ = Industrial Quality) is based on post-industrial and post-consumer materials. Altech ®️ IQ recycling compounds have technical properties equivalent to approximately 60% of that of new products. Specification is possible for the component color, filler content and humidity. Altech ®️ IQ offers good value for money and good availability (e.g. in the polymers PP, PC + ABS, PA6 and PA66).

WIPELAST is a PP-EPDM talc compound with very good technical properties. It consists of 100% recycled waste from the automotive industry. WIPELAST recycling compounds enable cost-effective solutions with a lower CO 2 footprint compared to new product compounds.

WIPAFLEX is a PP+PE+EPDM recycled compound with good mechanical properties, in which the raw materials come 100% from the automotive industry. WIPELAST recycling compounds enable cost-effective solutions with a lower CO2footprint compared to new product compounds.
