MOCOM: AMECA listing for Alcom® Lighting

Hamburg, October 30, 2023. The plastics compounder MOCOM receives a listing in the U.S. vehicle market with its Alcom® Lighting portfolio. Thus, the MOCOM products have passed the US-American FMVSS 108 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) tests for Automotive exterior lighting applications.
After three years of weathering in the desert of Arizona and humid climate of Florida, the following materials are ready to be used as inner lenses in headlights or rear lights (technical datasheet in links):
- Alcom® PC 740/4 UV CC1320-08LG
- Alcom® PC 740/4 UV CC1321-08LG
- Alcom® PC 740/4 UV CC1322-08LG
- Alcom® PC 740/4 UV CC1323-08LG
- Alcom® PC 740/4 UV RD1123-05LD
- Alcom® LG PC 1000 UV 14094 CC1323-08
The test set-up simulates a typical automotive lighting assembly where the diffusive lens (test specimen) is covered by a coated polycarbonate sheet. The natural weathering exposure is performed at a fixed tilt angle of 45 degrees from the horizontal facing south in accordance with SAE J-576. Each of the grades showed no change in color, appearance and optical properties. “It is a huge step forward for all system suppliers who are looking for an all-in-one compound which can be used in both the local and US-American market,” says Andre Schrader, Team Lead of MOCOM´s Product & Business Development Service.
The approved products are listed officially in AMECA´s “List of SAE J-576 diffusing plastics used on motor vehicles” now, to be found under this link.
About Alcom® Lighting
Alcom® LD and Alcom® LG products ensure homogeneous light distribution or light guidance and avoid the typical LED "hot spots". Individually and precisely adjusted color variants, light diffusion and transmission classifications are MOCOM´s expertise for more than 20 years.
About AMECA
The AMECA (Automotive Manufacturer´s Equipment Compliance Agency Inc.) is a registrar of automotive lens materials for the US market. The AMECA listing provides proof of compliance to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS). It can reduce final part testing and makes the designer´s decision much easier to go away from e.g., textured PC solutions towards diffuse plastic compounds.
