At K show 2025 MOCOM presents Altech® PP FR compounds: flame-retardant, sustainable system solutions for battery-related components in the automotive industry

    MOCOM_Autobatterie_PM

Hamburg, Germany, September 23, 2025. At K 2025, MOCOM will present the Altech® PP FR product family – innovative polypropylene compounds developed for use in modern electric vehicles. Especially in battery-related applications, such as housing and peripheral materials, the compounds meet the high requirements of leading automotive manufacturers.

    Reliable performance in OEM tests

In component tests, including those based on VW 80000 standards for electrical and electronic components in vehicles up to 3.5 tons, Altech® PP FR grades confirmed their suitability for series production. They offer a powerful alternative to established flame-retardant technical thermoplastics – for example in carrier components for battery junction boxes, battery management controllers or AI carriers.

    Safe flame-retardant and additive system

The compounds are based on an electrically neutral flame-retardant and additive system specifically tailored to the requirements of battery environments, ensuring safety throughout the entire service life. In addition, the materials combine structural strength with excellent insulation properties, enabling efficient functional integration.

Meeting strict international fire safety standards

Altech® PP FR complies with the strict fire safety requirements of UL94 and achieves a V-0 classification at a wall thickness of 1.5 mm. The compounds are also free of halogens, red phosphorus, PFAS and melamine-based substances.

    Sustainable variants based on recyclates

Within the Altech® PP FR product family, MOCOM also offers variants based on post-industrial (PIR) and post-consumer recyclates (PCR). Through advanced reprocessing technologies and backward integration, the recyclability of vehicles is supported and a contribution is made to the implementation of the European End-of-Life Vehicle Directive.

    Voices from Business Development

“With Altech® PP FR we are expanding our portfolio of high-performance flame-retardant polypropylene compounds and responding to the growing trend of using PP in automotive engineering,” says Semion Diordiev, Business Development Manager Automotive, at MOCOM. “The material offers safety and durability and gives our customers a robust solution for critical applications in battery systems,” adds Benjamin Sandoz, Business Development Manager Automotive, at MOCOM.

MOCOM will present Altech® PP FR along with other products from its comprehensive portfolio at K 2025 from October 8 to 15, 2025 in Hall 6 at booth A62.
